Brand and Exhibition Design
August 2024
Protean Protein is an exhibition proposal which reimagines insects (entomophagy) as a viable and sustainable protein source in Australia, challenging Western perceptions and inspiring a new way of thinking about food. This exhibition was exhibited at UNSW for a final Masters project, completed with Distinction.
Background
This exhibition directly responds to the predicted protein shortage in 2050 by reintroducing entomophagy in a different manner. The main aim of this exhibition is to address the Australian population’s current barriers from exploring entomophagy such as disgust and lack of information through re-framing the presentation of insects through processed means and removal of insect imagery from marketing materials.
It also addresses the UN Sustainable Developmental Goal (SDG) 12, Responsible Consumption and Production and indirectly responds to SDG 2: Zero Hunger by providing a solution which will eventually help to prevent further food shortage and potentially providing a more sustainable source of food which is both nutritious and effective.
Behind the Scenes
Part of the final design was investigating how can we present insect based food in a gourmet way with the limited ingredients available?
